Pumba Private Game Reserve

Pumba Private Game Reserve is situated in the Malari Free Eastern Cape and is a mere hours drive from Port Elizabeth and 15 minutes from Grahamstown, while the Gary Player design Golf Course at Alicedale is only 30km away. Covering about 6 000 hectares of land, Pumba Private Game Reserve is home to Africa’s Big Five and offers visitors the chance to experience the wonders of Africa –from the graceful Giraffe to Leopard and of course the pride of White Lions, 22 species of Antelope and other small game. Addo Elephant Park

Deep within the shadows of the dense valley bushveld of the Sundays River region of the Eastern Cape lies the Addo Elephant National Park. Here, the evenings are punctuated by the strident howl of the black-backed jackal, and the francolin’s call heralds each new dawn. Safe from relentless persecution in the past, the grey leviathans of the bush now roam in peace. Some of its unique features include: Unrivalled natural diversity, with five of South Africa’s seven major vegetation zones (biomes) the Big 7 (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, whales and great white sharks) in their natural habitat the future proclamation of a 120 000 hectare (296 500 acre) marine protected area that includes islands that are home to the world’s largest breeding colonies of Cape gannets and African penguins. Shamwari Game Reserve

Shamwari Game Reserve, 20 000 hectares (49000 acres) the malaria free, private game reserve situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, has received numerous international awards, including the World’s Leading Conservation Company and Game Reserve for five consecutive years. It is situated in verdant bush along the Bushmans River, halfway between Port Elizabeth (45 minutes drive outside the city) and Grahamstown, a pleasant drive from Cape Town, forming a natural extension to the famous Garden Route. Shamwari is about conserving a vanishing way of life and is the realisation of one man’s dream, and the success of many people’s passion. Steeped in Settler history, and dating back to the time when a multitude of game roamed wild and free, the 20 000 hectare reserve boasts five eco-systems, thus enabling the support of many forms of plant, animal and bird life. This is the ultimate African adventure and conservation effort coupled with responsible tourism.

Seaview Lion Park

The SEAVIEW GAME & LION PARK (est. 1975) is located on the Eastern Cape’s sunshine Coast, 25 km’s west of Port Elizabeth’s city centre. Set in 120 hectares of superb bush and grassland, the Park offers the unique experience of close-up Game-viewing. The Park boasts in excess of forty species of wildlife. Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Impala, Duiker and Monkeys roam free. Crocodile, Rock Monitors, Meerkat , Genets, Jackals, and Caracal (Lynx), are housed in camps and enclosures in the sanctuary areas. They are released into freedom if possible.

Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area

The Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area lies approximately 120 km. West of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa and comprises of approximately 270 000 ha. of unspoiled, rugged mountainous terrain. Starting in the East at Komdomo, the road leads through the rugged beauty of the “Grootrivier” Gorge on its winding path through this pristine conservancy, all the way towards Willowmore in the West. A total distance of about 203 km. The area offers a wide range of eco-recreational opportunities as well as an unique wilderness experience!

Tsitsikamma National Park

The Tsitsikamma National Park which includes the Storms River mouth is internationally recognised for its forests which harbour and conserve the giant Outeniqua Yellowwood tree – one of the few true monarchs of the world’s forests. This enormous tree is one of the most successful species in existence, having survived, unchanged for millions of years. If only passing through make sure you take a moment to stop at the bridge over the Storms River for magnificent views up and down the gorge. Even better head for the Storms River Mouth entrance to the Tsitsikamma National Park, where a number of short walking trails, one with a wonderfully wobbly suspension bridge, give you superb experiences of coast and forest. The park is more commonly known for its ‘Otter Trail’, a strenuous five-day hike up and down ravines and gorges and along cliff edges, which is often booked up a year ahead.
